About Iron Rod Security
Built by Someone Who's Been There
Iron Rod Security was founded on a simple conviction: the people protecting the community deserve cybersecurity leadership that understands dispatch pressure, field workflows, patient data, and the operational cost of system failure.

Steven Carlson
Founder & Principal Advisor
With more than 15 years of hands-on EMS experience, Steven has lived the operational realities that most cybersecurity consultants only read about. He understands critical calls, dispatch dependency, patient-care documentation pressure, and how quickly a technology failure can spill into patient safety and agency liability.
At the same time, Steven built a 15+ year career in technology and cybersecurity. He holds a Master's Degree in Cybersecurity from Liberty University and credentials including CISSP and CompTIA Security+. That combination shapes how Iron Rod Security works: practical, leadership-ready, and grounded in real EMS operations.
Iron Rod Security is intentionally advisory-first. The goal is not to become a generic MSP or helpdesk. The goal is to help agencies make better security decisions, prepare for operational failure, and work more effectively with the IT and vendors they already depend on.

Working style
Advisory that is vendor-neutral, operationally grounded, and built to help agency leadership prioritize what matters first. If you need the service overview, start with services.
Our Mission
Protect Those Who Protect Others
EMS and Fire agencies face ransomware, vendor breaches, HIPAA exposure, and system failures during active calls. Iron Rod Security exists to provide the kind of cybersecurity leadership that understands those realities and keeps the focus on continuity, prioritization, and usable decisions.
What We Stand For
Operational Reality
Security guidance grounded in how EMS and Fire agencies actually operate, not how a generic enterprise framework imagines they do.
Clear Communication
No jargon clouds, no vague recommendations. Leadership should understand what fails, why it matters, and what to do next.
Independence
Iron Rod Security is not tied to software vendors or managed-service contracts. The advice stays focused on agency risk, not resale incentives.
Preparation Over Reaction
The best time to think about ransomware continuity, vendor risk, and dispatch resilience is before a live incident forces the issue.
